Projects
I did this project which was conceptualized by Brooklyn Art Library (which is now defunct), we had to write either on Hope or something else. I can't remember anymore. But I chose hope. I never got the courage to submit this little book. But I think I am ready to share it now.
On April 30th, 2020, I received 21 voice notes. The participants could talk about their experiences during the quarantine surrounding the covid19 crisis, or answer five questions.
This project was inspired after listening to ‘The New Yorker Radio Hour’ episode called A City at its Peak of Crisis.
Going in, I did not know how I would weave these various narratives together. However, upon listening to them (repeatedly) and transcribing the voice notes, I came upon a common thread. The quarantine has inspired creativity, reflection, rest, and relaxation. But it has also erupted anxiety, fear, and a whole lot of uncertainty amongst us.
This was recorded in the middle of the crisis to capture the often ramble-y, displaced, frustrated, and profound thoughts that everyone around me seemed to be having. The pandemic is said to be a once in a lifetime event, and I wanted to do something to document these instances.
The five questions: - What are you planning to do today? - How do you spend your time? - How does it feel to be quarantined at home? - It has been more than a month since the lockdown began, how have your feelings changed? How are you holding up? - The lockdown is supposed to come to an end on May 3rd, how do you feel?
